No Disrespect Zone

I remember being a child and sometimes feeling that my parents were being unfair about something that I wanted to do. I also remember getting so frustrated that I would head straight to my room and shut the door behind me. It was then, and only then that I would commence to venting my frustrations about them verbally. Nothing too bad, just the typical "they're SO mean"....or..."my life's not fair!" I would have never even thought about saying something like that to their face. First of all, I was raised that it was disrespectful to talk back to your parents that way, and secondly I was scared out of my mind of my parents!

Let me clarify that a little. It was not my everyday, fun, loving, normal parents that I feared, it was the parents they became when I did/said something stupid/wrong and I knew better. So I guess my question is this.....When did it become okay for children to speak to their parents in such a way that makes my jaw hit the floor. And believe me, if I had spoke to my mother that way, I would be picking my jaw up off the floor (along with some missing teeth!) It was just not acceptable in our household. It didn't just apply to my parents either, it applied to any adult I was speaking to. I remember my younger brother being about 5 years old when he started opening doors for women, and knowing without being told that if we were in any kind of waiting room and a woman was standing without a chair to sit down in, he would immediately get up and offer her his seat. And he was 5! I see teenage boys now-a-days that do not even do things like that. Don't get me wrong, you do once in a while stumble upon children who have been raised with respect for others but it is rare. I know that my children will for sure be raised to have respect for us. It will be non-negotiable in our house.

Popping the cherry

Okay so seeing as how the whole blog thing is new to me, I'm going to try and ease myself into it slowly. PLEASE BE PATIENT WITH ME...Lol  Well if you're wondering who the person sitting behind the keyboard is, allow me to introduce myself. My name is Jennifer, and welcome to my world.  Please keep your arms inside the ride at all times. (It can get a little scary sometimes.)

 Just Me

My life is pretty average I guess....okay maybe it's average to me. I am a 31 year old who has been with my boyfriend for 10 1/2 years, and we've lived together for 9 1/2 of them. I know, I know...living in sin!!! But honestly, I wouldn't change it for the world. We do get the strange looks and disapproving nods from people when they discover the longevity of our relationship because...gasp.... "we should be married by now!" And not only should we be married, but we should be living in a nice home, and driving nice cars, and we should also have a couple of little miniature versions of us in tow. Never mind the fact that we are both in school trying to provide the above lifestyle for our future mini-me's. Anyway, I could go on and on about that subject all day, but I'll spare you from that......you're welcome!  Anyway, speaking of school, you might be wondering what exactly it is that we are studying. Well I am pursuing my nursing degree, while my boyfriend (also known as Josh) is hard at work to get an electronics engineering degree.  YAY FOR US!!!!!!!! Hopefully we will both have diplomas in hand sometime in 2012. Stay tuned!

 Josh and I

Okay so I guess I have rambled enough about myself for one blog, so until next time my friends.......
